About the role

As a Backend Developer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable and efficient backend services to process and manage large volumes of data. You will collaborate closely with Product Managers, Frontend Engineers, and DevOps teams to deliver robust APIs, ensure seamless integrations, and build reliable systems that support high-performance products. You’ll also be involved in defining architecture, improving observability, and ensuring zero-downtime deployments.

What is the impact and scope of this position?

This Backend Engineer works on the backbone of Daily Operations. The services and agents you build will:

• Power critical internal and external workflows that run every day at scale.
  
  
• Integrate with multiple data sources and event streams to keep operations healthy and predictable.
  
  
• Enable the team to move faster by providing clean abstractions, clear contracts, and robust tooling around data, monitoring, and deployment.
  
  

You will collaborate with Product, Frontend, Data and other backend engineers. The expectation is that you can lead technical conversations for the services you own and influence decisions that affect the squad as a whole.

In this role you will

• Operate as a Backend Engineer in a high-seniority squad, expected to ramp up quickly and contribute at that level.
  
  
• Own backend services end to end: design, implementation, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
  
  
• Bring curiosity and drive to the team: question assumptions, propose alternatives, and stay active in learning and experimentation (courses, hackathons, side projects, meetups).

What are the key responsibilities of this role?

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs using Python and modern frameworks such as Django and FastAPI.
  
  
• Build and maintain RESTful APIs with clear contracts for internal and external consumers.
  
  
• Model and optimize relational data structures, primarily on PostgreSQL, including queries, indexing, and performance tuning.
  
  
• Implement and run batch jobs and pipelines leveraging AWS services such as Batch, S3, EC2 and CloudWatch.
  
  
• Build and operate event-driven components using brokers such as Apache Pulsar, Kafka or equivalents.
  
  
• Design and implement AI or MCP-based agents that interact with internal systems, orchestrate tasks, and deliver tangible operational value.
  
  
• Ensure observability for the services you own, including metrics, logs, alerts and dashboards, and drive incident reduction over time.
  
  
• Apply feature flags, rollout strategies and zero-downtime deployment practices to ship safely and frequently.
  
  
• Write unit and integration tests, keep technical documentation up to date, and participate in code reviews with a focus on quality and maintainability.
  
  
• Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Frontend Engineers and other stakeholders to clarify requirements and anticipate edge cases.
  
  

Must Have

• 4 to 6+ years of experience as a Backend Engineer working on production systems.
  
  
• Strong command of Python and solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming.
  
  
• Proven experience with at least one Python backend framework (Django or FastAPI) in production.
  
  
• Experience designing, implementing and consuming RESTful APIs at scale.
  
  
• Strong knowledge of SQL and relational data modeling, preferably with PostgreSQL.
  
  
• Hands-on experience with AWS services in real environments, especially S3, EC2, CloudWatch and Batch.
  
  
• Experience working with event brokers such as Apache Pulsar, Kafka or similar technologies.
  
  
• Practical understanding of feature flags, canary or phased rollouts, and zero-downtime deployment strategies.
  
  
• Demonstrated experience building and deploying AI-based or MCP-based agents in production (not only experimentation).
  
  
  

Nice to Have

• Experience with Snowflake in production data workflows.
  
  
• Previous work with complex data pipelines, ETL or ELT processes at scale.
  
  
• Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation or similar).
  
  
• Previous experience in fintechs, high-scale consumer products, marketplaces or digital banks.
  
  
• Background in environments like Rappi, MercadoLibre, Nubank or large banks with strong engineering standards.
  
  
• Exposure to multi-cloud or hybrid architectures.
  
  
• Contributions to open-source projects or participation in hackathons, tech communities or conferences.
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  
  
• 4 to 6+ years of professional experience in backend engineering roles working on production systems.
  
  
• Experience in product-led or platform teams where reliability, performance and delivery speed are equally important.
  
  
• Professional proficiency in Spanish and the ability to work in English-speaking technical contexts (documentation, code reviews, occasional calls).
  
  
• Based in Colombia or Argentina.
