About the role
We are hiring a Backend Software Engineer to join Simetrik’s Dev Tools squad. This team builds the developer-facing surface of Simetrik so technical users can integrate our platform directly into their own stacks. You will design and ship robust APIs and backend services, orchestrate data flows, and make it easy for external developers to adopt Simetrik without ever logging into the app.
What does success look like in this role?
- You move with ownership and initiative, proactively unblocking yourself and the team.
- You collaborate tightly with the squad, contributing code reviews, technical debates, and clear documentation.
- You earn trust through transparency and high standards, and you model our cultural values day to day.
- Your services are reliable, observable, and secure in production, and other engineers enjoy integrating with them.
What is the impact and scope of this position?
This role is a core builder for Simetrik’s developer platform. Your work defines how third-party engineers authenticate, send data, orchestrate workflows, and retrieve results at scale. The quality of your APIs and services directly impacts product adoption, time to integrate, support load, and our ability to launch new developer capabilities such as MCPs and future SDKs.
What outcomes are expected in the first 3 to 6 months?
- Ramp-up and contribution: Gain a strong understanding of Simetrik’s architecture and integration patterns, set up the local environment, and begin contributing early code and API improvements.
- Ownership and delivery: Take full ownership of backend components or endpoints, ensuring they are well-tested, observable, and documented while collaborating closely with frontend and delivery teams to remove blockers.
- Impact and scalability: Play a key role in the squad’s first major release, drive measurable improvements in reliability and developer experience, and establish reusable backend patterns for APIs, validation, and monitoring.
In this role you will
- Design, implement, and operate backend services and APIs used by external developers
- Model and persist data, integrate with internal services, and orchestrate workflows end to end
- Apply sound engineering practices such as testing, CI, code reviews, logging, metrics, and alerts
- Use AI-assisted development tools responsibly to speed up delivery while preserving code quality and reasoning
- Collaborate with product, delivery, and frontend to scope increments and hit release milestones
- Write clear technical documentation that shortens time-to-first-successful-integration for external users
What are the key responsibilities of this role?
- Ship production-grade RESTful endpoints and supporting services in Python
- Build and evolve microservice components on AWS with robust data access and isolation
- Ensure observability and operability through metrics, tracing, structured logs, and alerting
- Safeguard security concerns such as auth, rate limiting, input validation, and least-privilege access
- Participate in design discussions and technical reviews that raise the engineering bar
- Partner with the team to create healthy technical debate and high-quality decisions
Must Have
- Demonstrable experience with Python in production
- Strong practical experience with frameworks such as Django and FastAPI
- Solid SQL experience and hands-on work with Snowflake and PostgreSQL
- Experience developing unit tests and automated testing pipelines
- Proven attention to detail and precision in translating requirements into working software
- Comfortable collaborating across multiple remote teams
- Real examples of shipped work that demonstrate technical depth and impact
- Hands-on use of AI-assisted coding tools such as Cursor or similar, combined with sound engineering judgment
- Alignment with Simetrik’s values: proactivity, ownership, transparency, and collaboration
Core skills and competencies required for success
- System design fundamentals: data modeling, consistency boundaries, caching, and performance
- API craftsmanship: versioning, pagination, idempotency, error contracts, and security best practices
- Testing discipline and CI hygiene with meaningful unit, integration, and contract tests
- Observability mindset: metrics and tracing that make systems debuggable under load
- Product sense for developer experience and the ability to simplify complex workflows
- Clear written and verbal communication with cross-functional partners
- Practical experience with AWS services such as Batch, Lambda, S3, API Gateway, and ECS
Nice to Have
- Experience building B2B SaaS products
- Advanced knowledge of Python libraries such as pandas, boto3, and requests or pysftp
- Hands-on experience with Git and CI/CD systems
- Interest in implementing end-to-end data flows from configuration to cloud operation
- Prior startup experience
- Experience with event streaming, queues, or pub/sub architectures
- Experience building SDKs, webhooks, or authentication flows for third-party developers
- Familiarity with AI agents or MCPs and developer tooling ecosystems
Qualifications
- Typically 5+ years of professional backend experience or equivalent depth through impactful work
- Proven experience shipping production services in Python within cloud environments
- Experience in startup or scale-up contexts with small, high-collaboration teams
- Location: Colombia or Argentina
- Language: Fluency in Spanish and English
Benefits
- Well-funded and proven startup with large ambitions and competitive salaries.
- Entrepreneurial culture where pushing limits, creating and collaborating is everyday business.
- Open communication with management and company leadership.
