At Octane, we’re looking for a Full-Stack Software Engineer who is passionate about building scalable, reliable, and user-friendly applications that create outstanding customer experiences. In this role, you’ll contribute across the stack by designing backend services, APIs, and distributed architectures while also developing responsive, intuitive front-end features. You’ll collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers to deliver solutions that balance innovation with stability, supporting both new initiatives and ongoing modernization efforts.
This is an exciting opportunity for a well-rounded engineer who enjoys engaging with diverse technologies and taking ownership of the full software development lifecycle. From design and development to testing, deployment, and ongoing optimization, you’ll gain experience across the spectrum of modern software engineering. With exposure to tools such as Python/Django, React, Terraform, and cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure, you’ll expand your technical expertise while making a direct impact on Octane’s platform. If you’re motivated by solving complex challenges, learning quickly, and contributing to a high-performing engineering team, we’d love for you to apply.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain scalable applications that deliver high availability, strong performance, and an exceptional end-user experience.
- Collaborate on distributed systems architecture, contributing to the design and implementation of microservices, APIs, and data pipelines that support business growth.
- Develop backend services and APIs, with a preference for Python/Django, ensuring reliability, security, and maintainability at scale.
- Implement and enhance intuitive, responsive front-end features, ideally using JavaScript and React, to create seamless customer experiences.
- Work with and improve legacy systems, contributing to modernization initiatives that balance innovation with system stability and long-term supportability.
- Support infrastructure automation and cloud deployments, leveraging Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform preferred) and deploying on major cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Write automated tests and contribute to code reviews, ensuring high levels of code quality, maintainability, and adherence to engineering best practices.
- Own the full software development lifecycle by participating in solution design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and iterative improvement.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers, fostering growth, upholding coding standards, and encouraging best practices across the team.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience demonstrating a solid foundation in software engineering principles.
- 3–5 years of professional software engineering experience with a track record of delivering reliable, scalable applications in production environments.
- Hands-on experience in backend development, with preference for Python/Django, designing and implementing APIs, services, and business logic.
- Frontend development expertise, ideally with JavaScript and React, building responsive, user-friendly interfaces that enhance customer experience.
- Strong understanding of relational and non-relational databases (SQL and NoSQL), including schema design, query optimization, and API integrations.
- Knowledge of distributed systems principles, including scalability, consistency, fault tolerance, and event-driven architecture.
- Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools, preferably Terraform, along with practical familiarity using cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Advanced debugging, problem-solving, and analytical capabilities, particularly when working with large, complex, or distributed systems.
- Proven ability to learn and adapt quickly, mastering new tools, frameworks, and technologies to solve evolving challenges.
- Proficiency in version control and code repository systems such as GitHub, Bitbucket, or Azure DevOps, with experience in best practices for branching and collaboration.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes, to support cloud-native deployments.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience building or maintaining SaaS platforms at scale, ensuring availability, performance, and multi-tenant efficiency.
- Familiarity with modern event-streaming and messaging technologies (Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar) to support real-time data processing and integration.
Compensation: In addition to salary, Total Rewards include bonus eligibility, a stock option package, and benefits as outlined below. The role described above offers a base salary of $100,000 to $135,000 + bonus incentive eligibility.
