Position Overview:
As an in-house Legal & Compliance Associate at Matta, you will support the legal and compliance department by providing legal advice, managing legal documentation, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. This role involves working closely with various departments within the company to mitigate legal risks and support business operations.
Key responsibilities:
- Legal Advisory: Provide legal advice and support to various business units on a range of legal matters, including corporate governance, commercial contracts, intellectual property, employment law, and regulatory compliance.
- Drafting and Reviewing Contracts: Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of legal documents, including contracts, agreements, NDAs, and other corporate documents to ensure the company's interests are protected.
- Compliance Management: Assist in maintaining corporate compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including data protection, employment laws, and industry-specific requirements.
- Risk Management: Identify and analyze legal risks associated with business operations and provide proactive solutions to mitigate potential liabilities.
- Legal Research: Conduct legal research on relevant laws, regulations, and case precedents to support the company’s legal position and decision-making process.
- Dispute Resolution: Assist in managing disputes and litigation, including coordinating with external counsel, gathering evidence, and preparing legal responses.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B.) and Call to Bar Certificate from the Nigerian Law school.
- 5-7 years post call.
- Experience working in-house or in a corporate legal department; experience in the relevant industry is an advantage.
- Strong understanding of corporate and commercial law, compliance, and regulatory frameworks.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in using legal research tools and Microsoft Office Suite.
